How checkcounciltax handles your data. The short version: we don't collect personal information, we don't sell anything, and your postcode lookups never leave your browser.

checkcounciltax.co.uk is operated by an independent UK publisher. We don't run accounts, we don't ask you to log in, and we don't track you across other sites.
Like every website, our hosting provider records basic information about each request — the IP address, the URL requested, the browser type, the response time, and the referring page. These logs are kept for up to 30 days for security and debugging, then deleted. We do not link IPs to individuals.
We use a privacy-respecting, cookie-free analytics tool to understand which pages people find useful and which need improvement. This collects: page URL visited, country (city-level only), browser, screen size, and referring source. It does not set cookies, does not track you across sessions, and does not build a profile.
If you enter a postcode in the homepage lookup, that postcode is processed in your own browser to determine your local authority. We don't send it to a tracking server, store it in a database, or share it with third parties. The lookup happens client-side.
Throughout the site we link to relevant external pages — individual council websites, the Valuation Office Agency, GOV.UK, and so on. Once you click an external link, you're subject to that site's privacy policy, not ours. We don't track or get told what you do after you leave.
If we ever add affiliate links (for example to council tax debt advice, or rebanding services), we will clearly mark such links and they will be subject to UK Advertising Standards Authority rules. We will update this policy accordingly. We don't currently have any.
UK GDPR gives you rights to access, correct, or delete personal data held about you. Because we don't hold any personal data — no accounts, no email lists, no profiles — there is generally nothing to access. If you have any concerns or believe we have stored data about you, contact us using the address below and we'll respond promptly.
For privacy questions, write to us via the contact page. We aim to respond within 5 working days.
If you have an unresolved concern about how your data has been handled, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or by phone on 0303 123 1113.
This policy is provided for transparency and to comply with UK GDPR (the UK Data Protection Act 2018). It is not legal advice. If anything here is unclear, please get in touch.
